Liberalism

-Based on the principles outlined here, how would you define liberalism?
So, this reading was quite confusing and hard to follow.  Looking up the definition, Liberalism: a political or social philosophy advocating the freedom of the individual, parliamentary systems ofgovernment, nonviolent modification of political, social, or economic institutions to assure unrestricteddevelopment in all spheres of human endeavor, and governmental guarantees of individual rights andcivil liberties.
-How do Mill's ideas fit into the concept of democracy?
To answer this question, we first must think, what are the concepts of democracy?
1) Worth of the individual
2) Equality of all persons
3) majority rule, minority rights
4) necessity of compromise
5) individual freedom
This exerpt stated, "His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant..."  Mill's believed that you could not make someone do something thst is not of their own free will because you think it is for there own good.
-What is more important in his thought: the individual or society?  In a way, I think it is even.  He is concerned about the indvidual.  At the same time the rights of the individual can not change unless the rights of the society changes.
