King Leopold II was arguably the largest and most horrid legacy of all.  The king unleashed new horrors on the African continent.  His "Congo Free State" was turned into a labour camp.  He contributed to about 10 million deaths of innocent people.  At the time, Leopolds reign was described as "Legalized robbery enforced by violence".  Congo's soldiers raped and tortured the unarmed civilian population.
